For artists and performers

A DKS production can be organized for a single class, grade or entire school. It may entail a presentation, meeting with an author, workshop, concert, dissemination in a museum, etc. The arena may be the school – in the gymnasium, auditorium or classroom – or a concert hall, cinema, library or museum. DKS productions can be roughly divided into two categories: experience-oriented and workshop or participation-oriented. Many productions include both, such as a guided tour followed by a workshop. DKS is diverse in terms of form and content, but most DKS activities are organized during school hours.

Physical meetings between art, culture and school pupils have been and will continue to be the basic idea in the DKS programme. At the same time, new dissemination formats and dissemination spaces for art and cultural experiences are constantly being developed. As of 2021, the proposal form in the DKS portal has a separate field for proposals that are not intended to be communicated through physical meetings, such as streamed performances, digital exhibition spaces or other non-physical formats. If this applies to your proposal, select «Streaming/web-based dissemination» under «Premises» in the form.

The participants in The Cultural Schoolbag meet children and young people throughout Norway. It is therefore a goal that the artists, performers, productions and apparatus the pupils meet, reflect our diverse society, are visible role models and contribute to an inclusive and diverse community.

The Cultural Schoolbag aims to interact with school curricula. This does not mean that the content is pedagogical in nature, but that DKS should be viewed in relation to the school’s general objectives regarding education, overall goals or benchmarks for subjects, where relevant. There must be opportunity for preliminary or follow-up work, so that students can get the most out of the DKS programme. School management, teachers and pupils are to be involved and included as central participants in The Cultural Schoolbag.

Artists and performers in The Cultural Schoolbag are paid in accordance with the industry standard and the copyright owner rights are protected in line with the Copyright Act. A framework agreement has also been signed between the Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities (KS) and the artists’ union Creo. Artists and performers who work for The Cultural Schoolbag are to be paid in accordance with this agreement.
